Fishing Diving

The last beach on the south coast of the municipality of Vila do Bispo, from west to east, from west to east, Praia do Burgau appears at the mouth of the water line that marks the border with the municipality of Lagos. It is a medium-sized beach, spread out along a Mediterranean bay that surrounds the fishing village of Burgau, with origins in an old tuna fishing boat that already existed in the 16th century. In the center of the bay there is a ramp equipped with limestone slabs, which still serves as a service for traditional fishing vessels. In the morning it is possible to observe the daily work of the fishermen. In addition to its natural beauty and strong cultural identity, this beach has good accessibility and proximity to car parking. It guarantees calm waters most of the year, being sheltered from the prevailing winds. It owes its name to the marine gastropod mollusc, a sea snail also known as “caramujo” or “burrié”, abundant on the rocks of this beach. The village of Burgau marks the beginning of the Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina Natural Park, which extends along the south and west coast of Portugal, all the way to the Alentejo municipality of Sines.
