The Beach
Through an irregular secondary dirt road, it is possible to discover Furnas, a beach that reveals itself between two imposing limestone cliffs that flanking the inset fluvial-karst valley that flows into the sea. Walled in by the rocky backdrop of the west cliff, the east is where you can look along the south coast, to the nearest coastal village, Salema. Praia das Furnas owes its name to the several coastal caves that it presents in its limestone cliffs, locally known as “furnas”. It is tempered by marked characteristics of Mediterranean influence, being integrated in the Natural Park of Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina.

The beach is located in an area with protection status in the field of nature conservation, namely, in the National Network of Protected Areas: Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina and in the Natura 2000 Network: Southwest Coast (ZPE) and Southwest Coast (SIC ).
Beach of golden sand, with small sand, where a temporary stream of small extension flows. Surrounded by limestone cliffs intensely sculpted by the elements and where caves were formed: huge sapas (cavities excavated at the base of the cliff) and caves.

It has tarred road access from the EN 125. At the Figueira/ Salema junction, turn towards Figueira. Access to the beach is via a dirt road from this village (about 2 km).
